The trundle is made to support a six inch mattress and you can put an 11 or 12 inch on the daybed. Also if you want the mattress on top to span the entire frame you want to consider ordering an xl twin that’s 80 inches long. A standard twin will work but you will definitely need pillows on the sides to fill in the extra space. Again, this daybed is extremely heavy duty compared to most of the junk that is sold as day beds.
